Well were back:( I can't believe we actually went to Washington D.C. this year it was probably my all time favorite class trip yet. This weeks the... Crestone Enquirer has tons of articles and day to day accounts of where we went and what we did!

I wanna go home!

When we were in Washington DC we went to the Holocaust museum. Huitzi and Trevor went to the adult exhibit. We learned that it was long boring and scary. the exhibit took two and a half hours, Huitzi was white by the time we got out. The one good part was when we got out. An example is one whole room is shoes of German people.

No! Back already!?!?!

Washington was totally sweet but I wish we could have stayed there a lot longer! My favorite part was going to the Air and Space Museum! Zasquin and I rode the simulator ride! We got to control a pretend jet and we kept flipping over and over like a rollercoaster!!! It was SO fun!!! I definitely recommend it!

washington was really fun.
The only thing that was anoying, was that we did so much walking, but it was worth it.
All the Musiams and stuff were cool. My favorit place was the Air and Space Musiam, because u could try out stuff. The National history Musiam was coolin because it had Dinosors. Thats the main story i remember more but oh well read someone elses blog.

We got to denver at 9:00 when I got to my house it was 1:45. We got to the airport three hours before it left- it was a long wait. We played on the escalator things.
Then when we finaly got on plane it was a 5 hour flight. I sat next to Trevor and

Today we walked to alot of the different memorials in washington. It includeds The Washington Monument, The Jerffreson Memorial, The Lincoln Memorial, The World War 2 Memorial, The Koren War Memorial, The Veaitnam Wall and Arlington National Cemetary. I liked The Washington Moument the best. It was very very tall.

The Jefferson Mermorial and The Lincoln Mermorial wer very simaler. They were both had a staue of the president and a satue and writeing on the walls. After The Lincoln Memorial we walked to the The World War 2 Memorial, The Koren War Memorial, The Veaitnam Wall. After lunch we went to the Arlington National Cemetary. It had rows of white tombs and was a little interesting.

The problem was that we did so much walking yesterday at the Smithoian that we were all sore and today we did even more walking. So I wonder how are feet will feel tomorro.

Home frome DC!

On the DC trip we had a lot of fun and we had a great trip. Some days exciting and others boring but in the end I think we all enjoyed it. I enjoyed it even though I was sick for two days
but I think were happy to be back!

Trip Reflection

Last Tuesday we left the land of the mountains and headed for the urban land of Washington DC. Over the entire trip we learned many things and had many different experiences. It would be tedious to go through day by day of what we did on the trip, this is a reflection not a summery. It's been almost a week since we came back from the airport and memories are starting to get fuzzy for me, like the way you remember a dream. The experiences that I will be recounting are things that still stand out the clearest in my mind, even a week later.

This was the first time the middle school had gone on a plane ride. For me it wasn’t more different the any other plane trips I've gone on except there were allot more kids on the plane than usual but it still stands out. Another thing is the time difference. When we left the mile high city of Denver it was 11:00 and when we got to DC it was 4:15ish. I sense that I am droning on about nonsense, lets move on.

Another memorable day for me was the Smithsonian’s we did so much walking that day that it was ridiculous but it was worth it. We saw many Interesting exhibits in the natural history museum including the hope diamond and Teddy's elephant. In the air and space we were too tired to really pay much attention to the exhibits in there. I also liked the monuments we saw the Lincoln Memorial, the Jefferson Memorial, the Korean War Memorial, World War 2 Memorial, the Vietnam wall and Arlington cemetery. I got lots of pictures that day.

The trip had its good things and its bad things, but it was a Mostly a good trip and I hope to go back to see all the things that I didn't gat a chance to see this time. I’m having some trouble with pictures right now and I have to take them off temporarily.

I liked it I do not know about what other people thank about it but I thank it was a great trip was the first time I have flown ACROSS THE COUNTRY on a class trip! That's pretty cool in thaink.There was alot of walking but i thaink it was all worth walking for. there was lots of thaings to see too!!! SO WHAT I THAINK ABOUT WASHINGTON IS THAT IT WAS GGGGRRREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

home finaly, on our last day we got to sleep in but breackfast ended at 9:30 so you be the judge.
any way we got to the airport 3 hours befoe the plane takes off it was a long wait so we wated alot and we played on the the flat escolaters. and when we got to denver it was 9 when i got to my house it 1:45.

On the trip in Washington the C.C.S. went to the world war 2. In world war 2 there are a lot of water fountains and a wall of stars that represents people who risked there life for other men in war.

Pointillism and other art forms

Among other things this week, we have made several art museum stops. In the Impressionist exhibit of the National Gallery of Art, Soleil and Katlyn had fun looking at a painting done it the Pointillism style, where small dots of paint are applied with the tip of the paint brush. The result, especially seen from a distance, creates a picture. In this case it was a soft and beautiful landscape.

When we got to the DADA exhibit in the modern East Building of the museum, I showed a more modern painting and asked if they thought whether it was pointillism also. Peering closely at it, Katie remarked dryly, "It looks more like pointless-ism to me!"

Back home

Hello all! Twenty-two tired children, and eleven perhaps even tireder adults pulled into the charter school parking lot this morning around 1:30am. We are all home safe.
We had difficulty with the internet connection in our hotel the past few days, so you haven't received updates. Today is a day off for children, but tomorrow you should see some fresh material as they reflect on their week in Washington DC.
I think we all will appreciate the experience more with the perspective of being away from it. I know that I am missing the morning routine of getting sleepy little girls up and going, a Holiday Inn continental breakfast and heading off for the Metro in shuttled vans. The Metro stop in DC that we used brought us right to the middle of the National Mall. It was such a treat to ride the escalator up and emerge into the green grass and springtime in this most famous park with the Capitol Building in one direction the Washington Monument opposite and the White House through the trees. Washington is really a beautiful city.

Not much going on

Yesterday was kinda slow.We did the normal Easter thing then went to church.After that we went to a brunch at Kenzies uncles house then went home to change.We went to kenzies land and her brother Matt and his friend made a kite out of a tarp.The wind was so stong that it was dragging them on the ground.Today we're going to clean out the sheep pen. Hi again!

Hi everyone!
Today we went on a cruise to Mt. Vernon. It was really cool. I think it was a lot better than the whitehouse. I was disappointed at how boring the whitehouse tour was. all we got to do was walk in a hall and look into all the rooms it just went in a straight line with a curve every now and then. Mt. Vernon was a lot funner though. There was a lot of interesting things about the house. I learned that its not mad eout of stone. it's actually wood that was chiped and disleveled and then varnished, and when they painted it they threw fine sand into the wet paint to make it feel like stone. I also learned tht the kitchens could heat to about 120 degrees when the slaves were cooking. Unfortunatly I took a bunch of pictures on the boat ride there and I didn't have any film when we got there.

Another long day, and ready to come home soon.

We have gotten home after a long day--from a 5 am wake-up call, down the Potomac to Mount Vernon, out for dinner and back for a quick swim after homework. We did three different Metro lines today, and the confidence is apparant in our young riders who were all new to the subway system just 5 days ago. Many of the kids are tired tonite, some cranky, but all the better (I believe) for the experiences of the week. When I try to imagine how my life could be different if I had learned from the 'real thing' as a child, rather than from a book, I look at these kids. They remain sparkly-eyed, and attract compliments often from total strangers. I alone had three different adults approach me on the river cruise today to ask about our program and our children. All were full of praise for our kids, and two of the three expressed that they would have moved to a community to have given their children the type of education that they saw in our group.

Today on the whitehouse lawn, I was smashing dandilions in my hands. What I didn't know was that I was gong to get an allergic reaction to the pollen. I did. So while all the other kids went to tour the grounds of the U.S Capitol Building, I had a leisurly nap on a small patch of grass. By the time I woke up, I was feeling better. We were still sitting on that little patch of grass when we heard bagpipes. We went to check it out, and found out that it was a Sikh holiday today. When we went on, we stopped for a popsicle,and ate it on the way to the metro. You can't take ice cream on the metro, so we ate as fast as we could before the subway came. When we got off, the alergies came back. They were with me through dinner and on the way back to the hotel. luckily Kerry, and his sidekick, Benedryl, came to the rescue just in time to help. Now I feel better, and ready to sleep.zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ

Its so awsome here in D.C. today we got a tour of the white house but... it actually isn't that thrilling at all and you don't even get a guide!!! also everyone was saying it was going to rain so most of us pulled on some long pants but it turned out to be 90 degrees or so it felt. Today was a pretty easy day we decided not to go in and check out the capital or supreme court so we all got back early.

Memorials today (finn)

Today we visited lots of DC's memorials. We saw the Lincoln Memorial which was very cool because of all the detail that was put into it. There weren't any cracks or seams. We also saw the Jefferson memorial which wasn't as cool but it was still fun. We visited the tomb of the unknown where we saw people gaurding it. We also saw alot of other tombs and graves where many of the people who died in the wars were. It was odd to see rows and rows of gravestones lined up for tons of acres. We went to the Korean, Veitnam, and WWII memorials. The Veitnam one was cool because the actual project design was given a B- in college.

Tomorrow we tour the Whitehouse, Congress, and the Supreme Court.

Our class arrived in D.C. on Tudesday April 12 2006 as most of you know. It is fun hear in D.C. with my class mates and chaperones. The group has gone to the Air and Space museum and the natural history museum along with 9 memorials and tomorrow we go to the Wight House and congress after that we go to the capital building.

It sucks to be sick on a field trip especially when it's in Washington DC. But I'm feeling better now and I'm ready for tomorrow to see the Capitol and the White House. Yesterday, we went to two museums, the Natural History and the Air and Space Museum. The Natural History Museum was super cool... The Hope diamond was huge for a blue diamond but they ruined it by putting it in a necklace. The dinosaur exhibit had more fish than it had dinosaurs, the only dinosaurs were triceratops, teranosaurus Rex, and the stogosaurus. There were two kinds of Triceratops. The long necked one was called a diplodoccus and the T Rex looked like it was fighting the Triceratops. the hardest thing to find was the sami ranideer people they wre at the basement thet are from noreway and sweeden. The air and space museum had alot of modelsof planes and rokets the gift shop was huge it had three floors.there was a stimulation thing but it cost to much. we looked at the space suit of the first man in space Yuri Gagaren.

Today I went to some of the Memorials in Washington D.C. I went to the Lincoln Memorial, Jefferson Memorial, WWII Memorial, Vietnam Memorial, and Korea Memorial.. We also went to the Arlington Cemetary, where all the soldiers, impoortant people to America, and congressional award winners are buried. The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is when a soldier gets so badly mutilated, they cannot tell who they are, they bury them there. I saw John F. Kennedy's tomb is.

I have enjoyed Washington so much since the time we flew over it in the plane till'....... Well we haven't really finished our trip yet soooooo.... I guess i could say i have enjoyed it so far. There! Happy now?!?!?!?!? I'm going to list all the museums and memorials that we went to!!! you ask why? cause i can! So there! HA!!! well there was the: Natural history museum, Air and Space Museum and the Sculpture Garden. Thats all for the Museums but for the Memorials there was: Jefferson Memorial, Lincoln Memorial and the Korean,Vietnam and World War 2 wars. Shortly after we rode the tour bus up to the Arlington National Cemitery (by the way that was biggest darn cemitery I have ever seen)!!!!!!!!! well then we watched this soldier do the same thing over and over and over again!!!! Then got on the bus again and drove to the food court, and ate and went to the hotel........ and thats all.

We went to the Jefferson Memorial. It has 55 pillars for those guys who signed the Declaration of Independence. Then we went to theLincoln Memorial. You can look at that pond and see the Washington Memorial. The pond is really dirty and murky and rusty. At the Korea Memorial there are statues of a bunch of guys going out across a field with their guns. The WWII Memorial is a big fountain with pillars around it with the state's names engraved on them. At the Vietnam Memorial they have a couple opf statues, and a big, black, shiny wall with the names of all the soldiers who died. At Arlington National Cemetery I saw the grave of J. F. K.

Great to have such support!

Hello to all of our devoted blog readers! We are running these kids too hard to give them time to blog yet, but that will change soon. It has been wonderful for Charlie and I to have the help of so many adults on this trip. We have toured several museums today by small groups. Each adult has 2-4 children with them and has taken on the task of getting the miles in and around the National Mall where the Smithsonian museums are located. It is a beautiful place, and has been a healing experience for me to experience such goodness about our country in a time of dissention and disillusionment. (In addition, my skin is loving this moist sea-level climate!! ;-))

We will get kid posts tomorrow, thanks for reading and your anticipated comments to support the children. And thanks for all your financial support which has made this trip a reality!

A Little Blog From Amulya

Hi Everyone!
The kids are all in bed, so sorry they have not blogged yet on our very busy trip. We are having fun in DC! Yesterday was a travel day, planes, trains and mini vans. Today we rode the metro from Largo, MD to DC and did museum tours....my litttle group did the Natural History Museum where we saw the Hope Diamond and many other natural wonders; the Sculpture Garden and the National Gallery of Art where we saw special Cezanne exhibits and a DaDa exhibit....way cool! Of all the fabulous things we have seen and done so far, I think Katie and Soleil like riding the escalators the best. Good thing we get to get the kids out of Crestone for a bit and expose them to "the real world", with elevators, escalators, moving sidewalks, Metro Trains and airplanes! I am grateful for my experience growing up around Chicago and traveling a lot to the Bay area for the experience it gave me in being able to negotiate public transportation and masses of people in museums; and now I am glad to share that with our rural kids (and adults!).

Not the best weather for traveling, but I would like it to be grey and overcast. That is the best weather for every thing, walking, snowboarding and traveling but it can't be windy. Trip Time

In less than 28 hours we will leave this rural land and head for the amazing city of DC. We will be gone for an entire week, over this week we will be doing many things that you will be finding out about over the time were in there. It's kind of shocking that we're finally going to DC after everything we've done to get this far. Thank you everyone who help us get here. I hope that this is a wonderful trip, and that we get alot out of it.

Hi everyone!
I can't wait until Washington D.C!!!!! It's going to be really fun. I like the groups I'm in and I like my chaperone. I'm sure everyone is going to have a blast and we're all going to see so much cool stuff. We all had to pack everything yesterday so that we could take it in today and have the teachers go through it. I can't believe the teachers actually got us a tour of the whitehouse. I love airplanes and It will be pretty fun sitting on one with all of my friends. Well I sure am exited!!

Hello People,
Tomorrow we are leaving! I think it should be a lot of fun. There should also be a lot to learn. I'm trembling with excitment, I've never been on an airplane before. I've also never been on a subway. It is nice to be able to learn about our Presidents and the wars we have been in. Over all I think it will be a blast.
