A Writer's Tea

Primary class had a lovely tea time today after morning break. Each student brought his/her own cup and Jen dressed the tables in beautiful cloths and poured peppermint tea for each student. Guests were also treated to a "biscuit" with their tea. Then students read their story books they had created in language arts. I got to hear "The Puppy that Followed" and "The Horse Race". Suspensful, delightful tales with great illustrations! Posted by Picasa

A Middle School Graduate

One of our middle schoolers has completed all of his competencies and was graduated yesterday in a ceremony that included a presentation by his teacher, speeches from his classmates recognizing his accomplishments, and treats. He'll now join the LINK high school program to continue his academic program and mentorships including Caveman Alchemy and Band. Congratulations! Posted by Picasa

The Disappearing Game

Here is Susan Fey with the Early Elementary students playing the "disappearing game" as part of their spelling lesson. Students would say and spell one of the words on the board and Susan would erase it--disappear it! Posted by Picasa

Honoring Heroes on MLK Day

Today is Martin Luther King Day and all the students on the Elementary Campus gathered in the Intermediate class to share a digital presentation on Martin Luther King Jr., Rosa Parks and the Civil Rights Movement. We were all moved to learn that Early Elementary teacher, Susan Fey, was a Freedom Rider. In her early twenties, Susan traveled from her home in Chicago on a bus to Montgomery, Alabama with other young people to participate in the very marches we were watching on the slide screen. As Susan shared her experience it connected us all vividly and deeply to the courage, justice and love that is at the heart of today's holiday. "Almost always, the creative, dedicated minority has made the world better." Martin Luther King Jr. Posted by Picasa

LINK Recognized in "Top Ten"

LINK high school students and teachers learned they were rated one of the top ten senior highs out of nearly 300 programs in the state. The Colorado Department of Education released it list of top high schools, and LINK came in at number 3, just behind two schools in Ft. Collins. The rating is based on standardized test scores and college entrance tests from 2005-2006. Here the group poses in front of a "teens haul" wagon that advertises the work the students are doing to earn money for their trip to India, March 20th. Look for more opportunities to support this program with upcoming "Italian Night" dinner and rummage sale on January 27th at the White Eagle. Posted by Picasa
