Fridays at the Mountain--Skiing and Boarding!

The snow at Monarch was even better yesterday than this picture taken a week ago shows. All students in the Intermediate and Middle School classes, as well as 2/3 of our LINK students participate in weekly ski and snowboard days. Each student has about 3 hours of work in a class with a skilled mentor teaching them, followed by free time to explore their new skills. This program is a very popular part of our outdoor education program.

St. Nick Visits Primary Class

 
 
 
 
The magic of the season arrived with St. Nick and through the eyes of all the Primary students. One thoughtful boy brings the thirsty traveler a glass of water! 

St. Nick visits Crestone Charter School!

 
 
 
 
We had a very special visitor today! St. Nick arrived and brought golden walnuts, gifts and treats to the children of EE and Primary classrooms. He read poems for each child that praised their particular virtues and the thoughtful work they had done this year. It was a very magical opening into the heart of the season! 

Not a food chain--a food web!

 
 
 
I peaked in on the excitement in Primary Class yesterday. Thomas Cleary, our school wide science instructor and outdoor ed teacher was hosting a wonderful, tactile, multi-layered lesson on bio-diversity and the food web shared by plants and animals in the natural environment. After weaving an actual web, students could tug and feel the tugs of all the interconnections!
