Caitins Rememberance

West Virginia is my home. I went home today, but most of it wasn’t there. This fight for the mountains in West Virginia has been a part of my life for years and years. We even got a brochure this morning that has my mom on the front.
The house I grew up in, that my grandfather built, is there. I’ve played in those mountains since I was four. It has been a long time since I’ve had to be there in that way. Many things have happened to me in between my visits. But standing there on Larry’s mountain this morning, trying to listen to the birds, I broke. The trucks loading coal were too loud to hear them sing.

It is apparent to me in every way that the interests of the government, and political officials, are definitely in the hands of the dollar bill. It didn’t take me till now to realize this, but to see my home destroyed for so many years, watching friends and family feel the repercussions, I think back to what Larry said to us this morning.
How far would you be willing to go, how hard would you fight for something you love?
