OK, so we've learned an important thing... Colorado banks Kansas' water... after the John Martin Dam, the Arkansas is empty all the way to almost Witchita... It fills up again from runoff and groundwater... check out these pics from Dodge City (used to be a mile wide here!) and then again by Arkansas City near the Oklahoma border...
