Thomas recap of the tour

Our trip is going great.
The drive wasn't too bad and we had a full day yesterday in New Orleans. We toured New Orleans with an engineer from the US Army Corp of Engineers, the group responsible for building and maintaining the levies and the Mississippi River shipping channel, amoung other federal projects. We visited the Lower 9th ward and saw the destruction from where one of the levies overtopped and then washed out a large section of levie, washeing away and making kindling of every house withing a 3-5 block range and flooding those beyond that. The Corp is rebuilding that section of levie , trying to get it back to pre-katrina standard by June 1st, that start of next years hurricane season.
It is hard to describe the feelings and sights of these areas. We toured for 3-4 hours, covering 8-10 square miles and the destruction was the same everywhere, the only difference being the level of the 'skud line' or high water mark staining the house siding. Students may have added comments and captions to those photos in that section as well.
